Tea
fertilised with panda poo set to be the world's most expensive
A special type of tea, grown using panda excrement as fertiliser, is
set to become the most expensive tea in the world.
An Yanshi, a lecturer at Sichuan University in China, believes his tea
may fetch up to $78,000 a kilo.
The Chinese academic has so far collected over five tonnes of panda
faeces for the project.
"Pandas have a very poor digestive system and only absorb about 30
percent of everything they eat. That means their excrement is rich in
fibres and nutrients," Yanshi told Chinese media.
Fertilising tea bushes with panda poo also may have health benefits for
the drinkers of the final product, according to Yanshi.
"Just like green tea, bamboo contains an element that can prevent
cancer, and enhance green tea's anti-cancer effects, if it is used as
fertiliser for the tea," he said.
If tea fertilised with panda poo isn’t your thing, you can always save
up to buy the world’s most expensive coffee, which is made from coffee
beans eaten and excreted by a small mammal called a civet.
